A native of Vallejo, California (home to Sly And The Family Stone, Johnny Otis and Con Funk Shun, a.o.), Jay Arnold had the radio bug early, growing up to great San Francisco stations such as Top-40 KYA and KFRC, M.O.R. KSFO and KIOI (K-101).
Four months after graduating from Lodi High School, he got his start as a professional disc jockey in 1980 at KWG 1230 in Stockton, only a month after his start at San Joaquin Delta College's KSJC (now KWDC). After a year as a KWG weekend/fill-in DJ, Jay moved to cross-town KWIN, where he became morning-drive DJ a year later.
Jay expanded his horizons and creativity by relocating to KUIC, "Quick 95," in Vacaville, CA where, before becoming afternoon DJ/Production Director, he created and hosted Solano Gold, a Saturday night Oldies request/dedication show that featured the lost oldies as well as the big hits of Rock music's early years.
Jay then moved to Napa Valley's KVYN "The Vine," hosting the evening show and his next creation, Jay Arnold's GoldVine, which included interviews with music luminaries such as Frankie Laine, Bobby Goldsboro, Paul Revere of The Raiders, Judy Collins, Christopher Cross, and many others. All this eventually got the attention of KHYL Program Director Jon Brent in Sacramento. In 1997, Brent hired Jay as a weekender at KHYL's "Cool 101.1" in the Capital City, Jay's first major-market gig, lasting 5 years. From late-1998 until May 2001, Jay was Sacramento's number-one Saturday-night deejay (25-49, 25-54, 35-54 demos) as host of Jukebox Saturday Night and The Magic 101 Saturday Night Jammin' Party.
In 2013, after a second-stint at KVYN, Jay began a new radio venture: The Arnold Almanac, a daily 90-second music-history feature, broadcast seven-days-a-week, gaining a larger following when Jay went into national syndication in March 2022. His irreverent, yet informative look at events of the day in music history has attracted diverse stations such as KNWN "NorthWest NewsRadio" in Seattle; KYNO, Fresno, Calif.; KOTA, Rapid City, South Dakota; WGOH-WUGO, Grayson, Kentucky (Jay's first stations east of the Mississippi River); WYBO, Augusta/Waynesboro, Georgia; WCRN in the Boston area; Radio Safira in Warsaw, Poland; and many others.
Occasionally, as he has for over three decades, Jay guest-hosts with Dennis Terry on Friday Flashbacks from KSJS, San Jose.
Jay's hobbies include radio collecting, record collecting, baseball, bowling, bicycling, long walks, chess and travel-by-car.
